Avocado banana smoothie

Avocado is one of my favourite foods. My love for it started from sushi, then further developed from there. My latest favourite way to enjoy this fabulous pear-shaped Mexican green gold is in smoothies. Probably my favourite combination in a smoothie is together with banana – another favourite fruit for smoothies (I could add a banana to every blend. Every-single-fruit-blend).

Browsing the net for inspiration, I had stumbled upon several recipes that sweetened their avocado banana smoothies with honey. I like honey, but I was not 100% convinced and kept browsing until I found this recipe. Maple syrup! This is what I was looking for. I started picturing in my mouth the taste of such a beautiful combination: avocado, banana, maple syrup. I had to try it, but I skipped the ice.

Avocado banana smoothie (serves 2):

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 banana
  • 100 g Turkish yoghurt
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 250 ml almond milk

Peel and cut the fruits in pieces and add them to a blender jug. Add the Turkish yoghurt (Greek will also work fine), almond milk and maple syrup and blend until creamy. This smoothie is fairly thick, so it can be thinned with some extra milk. Cow milk can be used as well, but I went for almond for its nice flavour and to reduce my lactose intake.
