The Military Diet: day 2

Here goes day 2 of the military diet. Quite surprisingly, I didn’t wake up hungry as hell this morning, but was feeling okay. Yesterday I did some exercise, so I burned even more calories. I need that if I want to lose some real weight; although the military diet should work also without any exercise, I believe that moving the body is never a wrong decision. Overall, I have very positive feelings about the first day.

Here’s what’s on the menu for breakfast on day 2:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 slice of toast
  • 1/2 banana

The saddest news today is that coffee is not featured! Oh no! I made it up by making a big jar of green tea that I’ve been sipping the whole morning. Luckily drinking is very important, so there are no limits to water or green tea, the more one drinks, actually, the better. Green tea is diuretic, so it has an even enhanced detoxing effect.

Lunch is very pale, if I am to describe it for its appearance. It consists of:

  • 1 hard-boiled egg
  • 1 cup of cottage cheese
  • 5 crackers

Again, I played some substitutions here. The original diet plan calls for saltine crackers, which can be substituted with rice cakes. Here in Sweden there’s this wonderful crisp bread called “polar bread”, which has even less calories than rice cakes, so I decided to go for this one. I have photographed the whole package, but I ate 3 for lunch.

Dinner is a little more creative (and colourful), and features many vegetables!

  • 230 g lentils
  • 1 cup broccoli
  • 1/2 cup carrots
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup ice cream

The original diet plan on the second evening features 2 hot dogs – just the wursts, clearly, and no buns. I decided to change it into a vegetarian version, and substituted the sausages with the lentils, which I like to prepare with turmeric and curry powder. I have just cooked them in their own water until it evaporated, and only added the spices, there is not even need for salt. The broccoli are just plain sautéed without condiment, and I have added just a tiny pinch of salt at the very end. As for the carrots, my choice is baby carrots, raw. For dessert today there is less ice cream, but it’s paired with banana. Just for the sake of decoration I sprinkled a bit of unsweetened cocoa powder on top. Its bitterness doesn’t really bother, since the banana is so sweet anyway.
